Providing the foundation for permanent housing
Interim housing offers safe, temporary accommodations for households to stabilize, heal and obtain permanent housing. VCH has two interim housing programs – Westminster TLC for families and Roots to Grow for transition aged youth.

Westminster TLC
Our Westminster TLC Program provides high-quality, short-term housing to families who are experiencing homelessness.
While living at TLC, families have access to case management support, assistance with securing permanent housing, and voluntary, on-site educational programs and services. These include computer classes, tutoring, money management and budgeting workshops, internships, job readiness assistance, parenting classes, and more.

Roots to Grow
Venice Community Housing (VCH) and Safe Place for Youth (SPY) are dedicated to providing young adults with housing and critical resources that support their long-term stability. The lack of available housing programs for youth in West Los Angeles has been a significant challenge in preventing or abating homelessness. To combat this, SPY and VCH created a transitional housing program, Roots to Grow, that operates across two sites in Mar Vista and Westwood. The Roots to Grow program provides short-term housing for 20 youth between the ages of 18-24 experiencing homelessness.
Program Model:
- Transitional Housing: Youth can stay in the program for up to 36 months and have access to housing, meals, and much needed support and resources as they search for permanent housing solutions.
- Live-In Resident Coordinator: A resident coordinator lives at each site and is responsible for general oversight of the property and its residents, crisis response, and resident safety.
- On-Site Case Management: A case manager supports all residents as they search for permanent housing, secure employment and begin saving, and meet personal goals.
- Education & Employment Services: Residents have access to robust educational and employment programs that provide pathways to a high school diploma or the equivalent, college enrollment, job training, internships, and leadership development.
